guitar 1 plays a riff in E, while guitar 2
plays the same riff while moving from E to F to F# to G to G#... etc...


Say you're picking a chord that's A 7th Fret, D 8th Fret, G 9th Fret,
have the 2nd guitarist pick the same chord as A 6th fret, D 7th Fret, G 8th Fret.
It gives a washy fucked up carnival ride kind of sound.

It's not that easy to do. They seem to use a lot of "reversed" chords,
I don't recall the correct term for it;
I mean those kind of chords which are built on the 3rd / 5th / etc. instead of the root.
This can give a downtuned effect even when you use standard tuning (Galder of Old Man's Child / Dimmu Borgir uses this trick a lot).


Dissonant intervals are there but that should also include m2, M2, aug5, m7 and so on,
